The Oakwood Group has completed a 95,000 square foot plant addition, including flexible manufacturing cells and increased shipping capabilities.
Oakwood’s Taylor, Michigan manufacturing center now totals over 350,000 square feet of manufacturing footprint and houses a one-of-kind vertically integrated audio cover manufacturing processes.
While growing to 360 team members, Oakwood continues to be the global leader of metal audio cover designs and impact absorbing safety technologies.
“The demand for our metal audio covers, speaker grilles, continues to increase and growing our manufacturing footprint and creating jobs is the exciting result. Our customers have a keen interest in ‘truth in materials’ and differentiated trim and audio levels that drive the desire for metal grilles,” commented Matt Gerwolls, Director of Sales.
With in-house tooling capability and vertically integrated manufacturing, Oakwood’s “core” expanded metal grilles cost the same or less than painted plastic grille covers while providing acoustic and appearance benefits. The plant expansion accomodates increased production and keeps key processes within the same facility.
“By choosing a metal grille strategy our customers have the ability to use low cost audio covers instead of plastic in base level vehicles then walk up to luxury, branded grilles to showcase audiophile packages. Our industrial design and engineering support is tailored to each customer and we are developing new technology and design concepts often to show customers what could be next,” said Gerwolls.
